Below is a list of some of the activities available at the adventure resort. Upon booking your all-inclusive package stay, you'll choose from these activities as we plan and create your trip together!

Clearwater River Float or Kayak

Float the Clearwater River aboard rafts, tubes, or for those looking for a bigger challenge, your own sit-on-top kayak!

Guided Hike to Japanese Internment Camp

A nice and easy walk up Canyon Creek to visit the ruins of a Japanese Internment camp from the days of WWII. The site became a federal prison camp in 1935 and during WWII it was converted to house Japanese men branded "enemy aliens".  Because the camp was so remote, fences and guard towers were not needed.  Today not much remains, physically, of the site, however, the history is long.  With some of your imagination and your guide's story-telling skills, the site comes alive!  It is an amazing story and an important part of our country’s history. After this we go to the Lochsa Historical Ranger Station to learn more about the early years of the Forest Service and their important role in shaping the West.

Guided Hike in the Bitterroot to the Big Burn

We drive high into the mountains above the lodge and take a short hike to an active fire lookout with incredible views over the Bitterroot Mountains. It’s the perfect setting to learn about the “big burn” of 1910 that shaped the history of the West. In August we’ll likely find huckleberries to pick too!

Self-Guided Hiking - Hot Springs and Waterfalls

There are miles of hiking trail on National Forest land near the adventure resort. Hike up Smith Creek from your cabin and you might see moose, elk or black bear. Or hike to a nearby wilderness hot spring. About an hour away is Selway Falls and the trailhead for Meadow Creek, a beautiful and gentle trail. Guided Mountain Biking

We offer guided mountain biking adventures for our guests. Each adventure is designed to accommodate your individual or group's skill level. Available options include riding up the scenic Lower Selway River and visiting the Lewis & Clark Trail . Our guides are trained in interpretation which brings the area to life as you learn about the history, flora and fauna of North Central Idaho.

Nez Perce & Pioneer Van Tour

We offer a van-based tour with short walks focused on the local history of the area including the Nez Perce and early pioneers. We start with a visit to Heart of the Monster where, according to Nez Perce tradition, the Nez Perce people were created. We continue another hour to the Nez Perce National Historic Park, operating by the National Park Service.  From here we drive uphill to the Camas Prairie. If there is time and interest, and they are open, we can visit the Monastery of St. Gertrude’s near Cottonwood.  We continue our route and then drop back into the Clearwater River Canyon before arriving back at the lodge in the late afternoon. 

Fishing (non-guided)

Many of our guest choose to go off in hopes of catching "the big one" on their own for an afternoon.  We can point you in the right direction and even shuttle you to the best fishing locations.

Fly Fishing Instruction

Our "Fly Fishing Instruction" day is meant as an introduction to fly fishing led by one of our regular "Activity Guides" and not by a professional fly fishing guide.  On this activity, we start the day practicing how to cast on the lawn of the resort and learning some of the vocabulary associated with fly fishing.  Then we head to the river and board one of our smaller rafts.  While we float the river, you learn the basics of fly fishing, how to read the water to know where the fish might be, how insect hatches influence fly fishing and also, practice your casting.  You might even catch a fish!  The "Fly Fishing Instruction" is not the same as a "Guided Fly Fishing" experience for which there is an additional charge and you are guided by a professional fly fishing guide.

Guided Fly Fishing*

In 1968 Congress passed the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act that protected several rivers around the country that had outstanding wilderness and/or water quality values. Included in this original elite group was the Middle Fork of the Clearwater and the two rivers who join to create her, the Lochsa and Selway Rivers. ROW is proud to offer fly fishing trips on both the Selway and Clearwater and rafting on all three of these National Treasures.

Horseback Riding*

We partner with local outfitters to offer Idaho horseback riding in the surrounding Selway-Bitterroot Mountains. Whether you’re an experienced or a novice rider, you can saddle up and ride through the spectacular views of Idaho's rugged mountain landscape. Along the way there is plenty to learn. Your adventure guide can tell you about the role of forest fires in this area, Lewis and Clark’s adventures, the local plants and animals and much more. 

Lochsa or the Salmon River Rafting*

Half or full-day of whitewater rafting on either the Lochsa or the Clearwater River, depending on the season and your ages. The Lochsa generally is too low to float by mid-July and the age limit is around 15 years old. On the Clearwater we can take kids as young as five.
