Sample Itinerary-

Five Days - Sunday to Thursday All Inclusive (Summer Package: June 12 - Sept 3)

4:00 pm – Check in. Guests arrive and check in to their cabins.
6:00 pm – Get acquainted with other lodge guests as we host appetizers, introductions and orientation for the week. Choose tomorrow’s activities.
7:00 pm – Dinner is served in the Syringa Cafe. After dinner enjoy time around the campfire visiting with others, or retreat for a quiet evening in your cabin.

9:00 am – Breakfast is served in the restaurant.
10:00 am – Meet at the ROW Adventures outpost building (next to the restaurant) for today’s activities.

Adventure Series: Float the Clearwater River on a gentle float trip aboard rafts or for those looking for a bigger challenge, your own sit-on-top kayak.
Explorer Series: A hiking trip on a nearby trail. There are dozens of trails to choose from and each week the destinations will be different depending on trail conditions, weather and other seasonal conditions. We’ll tailor this to each group’s interest as some trails are more demanding than others. One example would be an easy walk up Canyon Creek to visit the ruins of a Japanese Internment camp from the days of WWII. This is an amazing story and important part of our country’s history. After this we go to the Lochsa Historical Ranger Station to learn more about the early years of the Forest Service and their important role in shaping the West.

Whatever activity you choose, we’ll have lunch on the river on a lovely sand beach, or on the trail beneath towering pines.

3:30 pm – We return to River Dance Lodge. Those who went hiking may want to head to a nearby beach for a swim. Otherwise enjoy some free time in your cabin.
6:00 pm – Appetizers on the restaurant patio.
7:00 pm – Dinner served in the Syringa Cafe. Sign up for tomorrow’s activities. After dinner enjoy time around the campfire if you’d like. We’ll have our telescope out for star gazing.

9:00 am – Breakfast is served in the restaurant.
10:00 am – Meet at the ROW Adventures outpost building for today’s activities.

Adventure Series: You can raft or kayak the Clearwater again if that’s your preference. Or, if you were on the river yesterday, perhaps today you’ll want to choose a hike or bike ride? These can be tailored to the group’s abilities on a variety of area trails. Bike rides vary from fairly level dirt roads to steep and rather extreme single track riding. Likewise, hikes can be on fairly level terrain, or steeper and more challenging.
Explorer Series: Today we drive high into the mountains above the lodge and take a short hike to an active fire lookout with incredible views over the Bitterroot Mountains. It’s the perfect setting to learn about the “big burn” of 1910 that shaped the history of the West. In August we’ll likely find huckleberries to pick too!

3:30 pm – Return to the lodge. Free time.
6:00 pm – Appetizers outside under the trees. Dutch oven cooking class for whoever would like to learn how to cook a cake in a Dutch oven. Kids can help us cook a monster cookie!
7:00 pm – Dinner under the trees by Little Smith Creek. Enjoy some great gourmet camp cooking followed by a campfire, songs and star gazing.

9:00 am – Breakfast is served in the restaurant.
10:00 am – Some people may be ready to simply relax in their cabins, go on a walk or take one of our bikes out for ride. Or maybe you’ll want to head to a local beach for a swim. There are also a couple of local fish ponds, stocked by the Idaho Fish & Game Department and great fun for kids of all ages. If you decide on any of these options, we’ll pack a box lunch for you. Otherwise, you can choose:

Adventure Series: Among today’s choices will be an optional horseback ride for a half or full day or full-day whitewater rafting on either the Lochsa or the Salmon River, depending on the season and your ages. The Lochsa generally is too low to float by mid-July and the age limit is around 12 years old. On the Salmon we can take kids as young as five. There is an additional charge for these activities which range in cost from $65 to $175 per person.
Explorer Series: We offer a van-based tour with short walks, focused on the local history of the area including the Nez Perce and early pioneers. This includes a visit of the small town of Kooskia and the nearby Nez Perce site of Clear Creek. Then we visit Heart of the Monster, where, according to Nez Perce tradition, the Nez Perce people were created. We’ll visit a number of other sites in Kamiah, learning about the rich culture of the Nez Perce and stories of early homestead days in the area. If you’d rather go on a gentle hike on one of the local trails, that’s another possibility. There is an additional charge for today’s Explorer Series choice of $82-$150 per person.

3:30 pm or later (depending on activity chosen) – Return to the lodge.
4:30 – 6:00 pm Beach party! A swim at the huge white sand beach at Wild Goose rapids followed by hors d’oeuvres.
7:00 pm – Gala farewell dinner at the Syringa Café.

9:00 am – Breakfast and check out. Please have your cabins empty so our house cleaning crew can get to work. If you want to extend your time in the area, you could sign up for an optional morning or full-day horseback ride before heading to your next destination.
